Overview

The World Media Summit Global Awards for Excellence: Winter Sports Photo is an international professional photo contest organized by the World Media Summit.

This Awards carries forward the spirits of "Truth, Objectivity, and Excellence" of the first WMS Global Awards for Excellence, recognizes journalists who continuously improve their professional standards and strive for excellence, and encourages media organizations around the world to share inspiring images of winter sports.

Categories

The Awards has two categories, actions and stories, and each category has two sub-categories of single photos and photo series.

Actions

Single Photo: one photo featuring a moment of action in competitive or non-competitive winter sports.

Photo Series: a series of 3-12 photos recording moments of action of competitive or non-competitive winter sports.

Stories

Single Photo: one photo documenting competitive or non-competitive winter sports.

Photo Series: a series of 3-12 photos featuring stories of competitive or non-competitive winter sports.

Each sub-category presents one first prize and two nominations.

The jury will select one photo from the winning entries as the Best Photo of the event.

The WMS Presidium member organizations will select photos from among the finalist entries that do not win the above awards for the WMS Presidium Special Award.

The jury reserves the right to withhold any award if the entries in this category do not meet their standards.

Prizes

The prize of each award consists of a certificate and a cash prize.

Any entry that wins more than one award will only be given the highest cash prize of those awards.

Best Photo: 10,000 U.S. dollars.
First Prize: 6,000 U.S. dollars.
Nominations: 3,000 U.S. dollars.
WMS Presidium Special Award: 1,000 U.S. dollars.

For winners who are citizens of the People's Republic of China, the cash prize will be paid in RMB. For winners who are non-citizens of the People's Republic of China, the cash prize will be paid in USD.

Judging Process

Entrusted by the WMS Presidium, the WMS Secretariat will set up an Organizing Committee to organize and host the Awards.

The jury will consist of senior professionals from the member organizations from the WMS Presidium and other world-renowned news organizations, as well as experts from organizations of winter sports and photography.

Judging will be conducted in accordance with internationally accepted practices and in a fair and impartial manner.

The chairman of the jury is responsible for coordinating the judges through the judging process, which will take place online.

Announcement of Awards Results

The list of winners will be announced on the official website of the Awards in November, 2021 and will be open for feedback for 10 days.

If there is no objection during this period, the list will be finalized.

Anyone raising an objection can submit it in real names to the Organizing Committee (wmsinfo@news.cn) using a registered email address of the contest.

The Organizing Committee will look into the objection within 5 working days and announce the results in an appropriate manner.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to interpret the Rules of the contest.

The Organizing Committee will notify the winners by email.
